NFC: Open air museums on the French Riviera

Contactless mobile technology allows enriched tourism experience of the French Riviera

Leisure and cultural tours are a major topic for the economic development of cities and villages of the French Riviera and information and communication technologies have become essential to promote the heritage tourism of these towns.

The CHEMIN project involves all new Information and Communication Technologies. It offers every visitor to get on his mobile phone multimedia content (audio, text, photos, videos, useful information, guides, points of interest, places ...) related to the towns and villages visited. This interactive tool allows visitors to have an active role by offering the opportunity to add comments.

With the use of new wireless technologies (NFC - near field communication), Flashcode (2D barcodes, common technology to French telecom operators) and devices (NFC technology compatible with all Bluetooth phones) the phone of every visitor becomes a new audio guide and towns and villages become open-air museums.

The inauguration of the project will be held Saturday, June 26 at 9:30 Gorbio (Place de l'Eglise).

In this mission of digital economy, made up of shares, novelty and modernity, the French Riviera is supported by the European Union, the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur Region and the collaboration of the Conseil Général des Alpes Maritimes.
