The city of Nice has been chosen to be the official host of the 21st edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) in 2023.
Following the victory of Lissandro, who represented France in the last contest in Armenia, the France Télévisions team is proud to organize the event in Nice.
The Palais Nikaïa, a temple of music, has been chosen as the venue for the event. This concert hall has hosted the biggest headliners and the most prestigious events, making Nice a natural choice to host the event.
The contest, reserved for young people aged 9 to 14, will allow about twenty young talents to promote their music across Europe, Central Asia, and Australia. France will also celebrate its seventh participation in the contest next November.
The event will offer significant media coverage with over 200 journalists present and a strong visibility on social media. More than 5000 overnight stays will be generated for the event, bringing significant economic benefits to the city.
Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, and Vice-President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region , commented on the event, saying: “It is an honor for the city of Nice to host a prestigious European competition like Junior Eurovision, which brings together about twenty participating countries and more than 33 million viewers.” Nice is a unique landscape, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which will be an exceptional setting to showcase the Junior Eurovision contestants. But it’s much more than that. Having the trust to welcome and organize this unique event at our Palais Nikaïa in Nice is proof that we are a European metropolis capable of organizing global events, especially cultural ones.
Junior Eurovision will once again allow the city of Nice to shine throughout Europe thanks to significant media coverage with 200 journalists present and strong visibility on social media. Significant economic benefits are expected, with more than 5,000 overnight stays generated just for the event.»
The President of France Télévisions and President of the EBU, Delphine Ernotte-Cunci, also expressed her pride in welcoming young artists from across Europe to celebrate the unifying power of music.
The Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, Martin Österdahl, also expressed his satisfaction at returning to France for the contest, only two years after a spectacular event in Paris. He emphasized the vision and passion of the France Télévisions team required to create something truly magical in Nice in November.
Finally, the Head of the French delegation, Alexandra Redde-Amiel, expressed her pride in having the opportunity to once again organize and produce one of the largest European musical shows in France, alongside the EBU, all delegations, and all young artists. She also stated, “Finally, what a chance to be welcomed as we are by the city of Nice, the famous and iconic ‘French Riviera,’ with an international aura. Thanks to its Mayor Christian Estrosi and all his teams. The Palais Nikaïa is an incredible venue to imagine a unique and exceptional show! We are delighted to think, create, innovate and showcase our ‘French touch’ to make the Junior Eurovision 2023 shine throughout Europe on November 26th.”
