- June 19, 2025 marks the official launch of construction for the Nice-Airport multimodal station in Saint-Augustin, with commissioning scheduled for 2029.
- This bioclimatic station will feature a photovoltaic canopy producing 600 megawatts per year and a 4,200 m² landscaped garden to limit the effects of climate change.
- The station will accommodate 3.8 million passengers per year thanks to 4 initial platform tracks (6 later on) and will offer TER connections every 10 minutes starting in 2032.
- This multimodal transport hub, located in the Grand Arénas district and near Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, is scheduled for completion in 2029, replacing the temporary Nice Saint-Augustin station opened in September 2022.
A strategic infrastructure for mobility in the Nice area
On June 19, 2025, Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, Renaud Muselier, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, and Laurent Hottiaux, Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, officially launched the construction of the future Nice-Airport multimodal station, located on the current Nice Saint-Augustin station site.
This essential infrastructure, scheduled for 2029, is part of the first phase of the strategic Ligne Nouvelle Provence Côte d’Azur (LNPCA) project, aimed at significantly improving rail travel in the region.
Nice Airport station: pioneering architecture in sustainability
Designed by SNCF Gares & Connexions and the multidisciplinary agency AREP, the Nice-Airport station is set to become a benchmark in Europe thanks to its bioclimatic architecture.
Its recycled-wood canopy, equipped with photovoltaic panels, will produce 600 megawatts of renewable energy annually.
The architectural complex, which also includes 4,200 m² of landscaped areas with 90 trees and 300 shrubs, is designed to actively reduce indoor and outdoor temperatures and minimize CO₂ emissions.
Intermodality at the heart of new urban uses
This project, a true focal point of the Grand Arénas district, will strengthen sustainable mobility by directly connecting the new station to tramway lines 2 and 3, the future bus station, Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, and metropolitan cycling networks.
Equipped with 4 platform tracks initially, the station will accommodate both TER and TGV services, with an initial capacity of 6 trains per hour and the potential to expand to 6 tracks to meet future increases in rail traffic.
Meeting growing mobility challenges
The project forecasts annual traffic of 3.8 million passengers, or about 10,000 per day.
From 2032, users will benefit from TER departures every ten minutes, compared with every fifteen minutes today, allowing smoother regional traffic and providing an effective alternative to individual car use.
This enhanced rail offer is part of an ambitious regional goal: to achieve a +36% increase in rail passengers by 2035.
A partnership-based funding model matching the ambition
With a total budget of €271.2 million, this station is funded jointly by the State, the European Union, and local authorities grouped within the LNPCA Company.
Project ownership is carried out by SNCF Réseau, with a maximum multi-year contribution from the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis of €56.79 million through 2035.
A station ready for major international events
This infrastructure will play a key role during the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games and will help bring together different territories around a shared strategy for sustainable mobility.
