Inauguration of the Maison de l’Eau in Nice
On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis inaugurated the Maison de l’Eau on the Promenade des Anglais in Carras.
This new space aims to inform and raise awareness among residents about water resource management and to present the future wastewater treatment complex, Haliotis 2.
The Maison de l’Eau is designed as a place for exchange and environmental education, highlighting the importance of preserving this precious resource.
Haliotis 2: A state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant
The future Haliotis 2 complex, presented in April 2023, represents the largest wastewater treatment project in France and one of the most ambitious in Europe With a budget of 700 million euros, Haliotis 2 is designed to meet future environmental and health standards.
This innovative wastewater treatment plant will have the capacity to treat the wastewater of 26 municipalities, equivalent to 680,000 inhabitants. It integrates advanced technologies to reuse treated water, eliminate microplastics, and produce renewable energies such as biomethane and solar energy.
Haliotis 2 will also be able to recycle 5 million cubic meters of water per year, meeting Nice’s irrigation and cleaning needs. In terms of energy performance, the plant will produce four times more energy than it currently consumes, contributing to the decarbonization of the territory.
This project is fully in line with the Metropolis’ Climate Plan, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
