A direct Nice–Funchal route announced for June 2026
In January 2026, easyJet announced the opening of a direct route between Nice Côte d’Azur and Funchal, the capital of the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira. The service is scheduled to start from 6 June 2026, with two flights per week. Ticket sales are already live.
This new route broadens the range of destinations accessible from the Nice platform by adding a direct connection to a Portuguese island territory. It aligns with the ongoing expansion of air services from Nice, regularly strengthened through new route launches.
Enhanced connectivity supporting territorial visibility
By linking Nice to Funchal, easyJet contributes to diversifying the direct connections available from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport. Air connectivity is a key factor in territorial accessibility: it links an economic and tourism hub to other European regions, facilitates mobility, and strengthens a destination’s international profile.
From this perspective, the opening of Nice–Madeira adds to the existing network and reinforces the continuity of direct routes from the Côte d’Azur, supporting the territory’s attractiveness and visibility.
Continuity of easyJet announcements
The launch of Nice–Funchal follows on from an announcement made in November 2025, when easyJet communicated the opening of a Nice–Birmingham route from 1 May 2026, with two flights per week, as part of strengthened routes between France and the United Kingdom.
In addition, several recent route launches have been announced from Nice, including Newcastle (from March 2026), as well as routes such as Düsseldorf, Madrid, Lamezia Terme and Santorini. The Hurghada (Egypt) service is also listed among network additions.
These route launches add new connections to the network from Nice Côte d’Azur and help strengthen the airport’s direct accessibility across multiple markets.
Nice Côte d’Azur: a growing international platform
The opening of regular routes takes place within the context of an airport with strong international reach. In 2024, Nice Côte d’Azur Airport welcomed 14.8 million passengers and offered a network of 122 destinations across 45 countries. These figures position the airport as a major entry and exit point for European and international mobility linked to the territory.
In this context, the announcement of the Nice–Funchal route represents a concrete addition to the network, strengthening the territory’s accessibility and connectivity with other destinations.
