Hosting UNOC 2025 in Nice structured global visibility
From 9 to 13 June 2025, the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis hosted the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3). It brought together more than 300 international delegations. In parallel, the Nice Ocean Business Forum served as a strategic meeting point for the maritime economic ecosystem.
Establishment of OceanWell in Nice
In 2025, the Californian company OceanWell established its European headquarters in Nice. Its deep-sea reverse osmosis technology aims to produce freshwater with low environmental impact. The establishment plans for 20 jobs in maritime engineering and environmental data.
Structuring of the maritime sector on the French Riviera
The local blue economy sector mobilizes 2,120 establishments and 5,000 jobs, generating €1.2 billion in turnover. It is based on eight economic segments identified in the Blue Growth 06 study by the Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry and its partners. This industrial foundation supports a dynamic of territorial innovation.
Support for blue innovation
The 4th edition of the Blue Innovation Challenge remains open until 31 January 2026. This scheme finances projects with high technological potential in the maritime transition. It combines grants and repayable advances of up to €80,000.
A territorial presence at Euromaritime 2026
Stefano Cimmarusti, Head of Project Development at Team Nice Côte d’Azur, is taking part in the 2026 edition of the Euromaritime trade show, held from 3 to 5 February in Marseille. This major European maritime industry event brings together companies, contracting authorities, startups and institutions around the sector’s transformation challenges. The presence of Team Nice Côte d’Azur fits into a logic of targeted prospecting and high-potential B2B meetings.
UNOC 2025: accelerator of an international positioning
The hosting by the Metropolis of the third edition of the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3) represented a major milestone for the territory’s blue strategy. From 9 to 13 June 2025, the city of Nice brought together heads of state, UN agencies, experts and companies around ocean-related challenges. In parallel, the Nice Ocean Business Forum organized by the Metropolis, in partnership with the Sud Region and the Pôle Mer Méditerranée, gathered more than 300 international economic participants.
This forum helped showcase regional expertise in marine energy, Blue Tech and sustainable port governance. It also contributed to strengthening ties with established companies and potential investors.
A sector under structuring and transition
The blue economy represents a strategic axis for the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. With 2,120 establishments, 5,000 jobs and €1.2 billion in turnover, the sector relies on a solid industrial base. The Blue Growth 06 study, published by the Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry in autumn 2025, confirms its structuring into eight segments, from yachting to underwater technologies.
The momentum is driven by local companies such as Naval Transition, Bioceanor and Inalve, all engaged in a transition toward sustainable, digital and experimental models.
OceanWell, a strong signal of active attractiveness
The American company OceanWell officially announced the opening of its European headquarters in Nice at the end of 2025. Specializing in the production of freshwater from deep-sea resources, it selected the territory for its testing conditions, resources and public partnerships. The company plans to create 20 positions over three years in technical and environmental roles.
Structured and operational support for innovation
In parallel, the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis launched the 4th edition of the Blue Innovation Challenge, a support scheme for technological projects in the blue economy. With funding of up to €80,000, the program targets high-impact solutions in decarbonized mobility, ecosystem protection or port management. The call for projects is open until 31 January 2026.
