{"id":2914,"date":"2016-10-03T09:34:34","date_gmt":"2016-10-03T07:34:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.investincotedazur.com\/?p=2914"},"modified":"2025-08-04T17:58:37","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T15:58:37","slug":"x-torp-a-serious-game-for-alzheimers-patients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.investincotedazur.com\/en\/x-torp-a-serious-game-for-alzheimers-patients\/","title":{"rendered":"X-Torp a Serious Game for Alzheimer\u2019s patients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>X-Torp<\/strong>\u00a0is a multiplayer\u00a0<strong>Serious Game\u00a0<\/strong>that helps stimulate the cognitive functions of patients with\u00a0early-stage<strong>\u00a0Alzheimer\u2019s.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0It was developed by a\u00a0consortium\u00a0composed of\u00a0Genious, the Research team\u00a0CoBTeK (Nice CHU, University\u00a0of Nice, Inria) and the Innovation Alzheimer Association.<\/p>\n<h2>X-Torp : a video game for\u00a0Alzheimer\u2019s patients<\/h2>\n<p>The game\u00a0is\u00a0designed for<b>\u00a0people diagnosed with the early signs of Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/b>\u00a0It was developed by the Genious Group in partnership with the Nice CHU.\u00a0X-Torp\u00a0is an innovative\u00a0<strong>multi-player battleship game<\/strong>\u00a0<i>\u201cwhich combines cognitive and motor activity\u201d<\/i>, explains Philippe Robert. This serious game measures the development of Alzheimer\u2019s disease, stimulates cognitive abilities, promotes physical activity in patients and maintains a social link.<\/p>\n<p>The clinical experimentation phase for X-Torp\u00a0had started in 2014 and just ended with positive results.<\/p>\n<p>A study led by\u00a0<strong>Pierre Foulon<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Philippe Robert<\/strong>\u00a0(President of the Association and coordinator of the Innovation Alzheimer Memory Resources and Research Centre) has validated the benefits of playing multiplayer X-Torp, a total of 10 hours of stimulation. Cognitive function of participants and their physical condition were checked a week before the start of training and one week after.<\/p>\n<p>It revealed an improvement in both cognitive performance (focus, concentration) as well as physical.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<strong>Professor Philippe Robert:<\/strong><em>\u00a0\u201cCoBteK the team from the University of Sophia Antipolis has validated the efficacy and safety of patients in a pilot study.\u00a0<\/em><em>A larger study is under development. Beyond the results, clinicians are convinced of the use of the game. Now we are introducing a stimulus consultation every Friday to patients who have the profile to qualify. Indeed, the serious game is a new tool for health professionals. It is therefore necessary to center its use.\u201d\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.innovation-alzheimer.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/downloads\/2016\/08\/JAD160268.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">read the study<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Serious Game\u00a0and Life Sciences on the C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur<\/h2>\n<p>X-Torp isn\u2019t the only successful project\u00a0combining\u00a0Life Sciences and Information Technologies on the C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur. As the connection between the two becomes more intricate, cross projects \u00a0including researchers, engineers and institutions flourish on the C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur.<\/p>\n<p>The best example to illustrate this dynamic is\u00a0<strong>\u201cMeMo\u201d an online platform project\u00a0<\/strong>led by\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>Innovation Alzheimer association<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>the Claude Pompidou Institute<\/strong>\u00a0(a residential care facility and research\u00a0center\u00a0for Alzheimer\u2019s disease based in Nice). With Memo\u00a0(Memory Motivation) players can play several Serious Games for cognitive stimulation on\u00a0a free online platform.
