The image economy shifts scale
The Sommet Lumière raises a structuring question: how to create, share and sustain the value of the moving image in the decade ahead?
Film, series, video games, platforms, the creator economy and artificial intelligence now share technologies, skills, capital and audiences. The Sommet addresses this convergence through the financing of works, intellectual property, AI, distribution and discoverability.
According to its press kit, film, television and video games are industries generating jobs, investment, innovation and growth.
This evolution reinforces the position of ecosystems able to combine production, creation, research, training and technology.
On the Côte d’Azur, a structuring industry
From Cannes to Nice, Sophia Antipolis and Saint-Paul-de-Vence, the Côte d’Azur brings together several components of this new image economy.
The industry relies on the region’s production capacities, the Studios de la Victorine and their €37 M modernisation programme, the Bastide Rouge in Cannes, the training programmes of ISART Digital and Université Côte d’Azur, and the scientific and technological ecosystem around 3IA Côte d’Azur, Inria and CNRS.
Video games and digital experiences complete this environment, notably with EVO France, gaming activities and the development of new immersive cultural formats.
Connecting the ecosystem to international markets
Team Nice Côte d’Azur supports this structuring through prospection, business setup and matchmaking actions with international ecosystems.
In 2026, the agency co-organised with risingSUD a Cinema Tour between Cannes and Nice to present the industry to international professionals, took part in Game Camp France and represented the technology ecosystem at the WAICF in Cannes. These actions extend the missions conducted with European creative industries.
Axelle Xerri, Head of Cultural & Creative Industries at Team Nice Côte d’Azur, leads these actions of international development and promotion of the industry, in connection with the companies, studios, schools and partners of the territory. If you have a development or setup project on the Côte d’Azur, please feel free to reach out to her.
The Sommet Lumière brings today a global perspective to these local dynamics. For the Côte d’Azur, the convergence between film, audiovisual, gaming, AI and digital creation shapes a new space for economic development, innovation and international attractiveness.
