The perfume and aroma industry was born in Grasse a few centuries ago.
Today, Grasse's industry has successfully completed its transformation: tradition rhymes with innovation and quality with spearhead technologies.
From a transformation industry still active today, the region around Grasse has become the high-tech center of perfumery. Over 60 perfume companies and factories --3,600 jobs-- located in the Grasse area generate 8% of the world turnover in this industry.
The ZAC Sainte-Marguerite business park is the largest industrial site of the Urban Authority of Pôle Azur Provence, offering a total area of 72 hectares. It hosts firms involved in the perfume and flavor industries.
In addition, the Grasse urban authority is developing a new area for fine chemicals and biotech activities (60,326 sqm. on a 1.6 hectare site) using recently-constructed buildings formerly occupied by Symrise (12,600 sqm.). A further 38,000 sqm. is also authorized for construction to extend existing premises on the site.
