The cluster encompasses every stage of ophthalmic drug development and every sector of activity in the field.

Main public laboratories pursuing research linked to ophthalmology:
- Centre Antoine Lacassagne
- Institut de Pharmacologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire
- INRIA
- Laboratoire de psychologie expérimentale quantitative
Fact: a growing and ageing population is leading to increased demand for ophthalmology care and treatment
Ophta biotech: founded in February 2008, the association is made up of 40 members (research laboratories, manufacturers, ophthalmologists, hospitals, universities and patients' associations) in the Alpes-Maritimes, Monaco and Corsica
Objective: to promote the emergence of new projects and tools to combat the entire range of pathologies affecting visually impaired patients.
Ophta Biotech's strengths: a unique concentration of manufacturing and research players, ophthalmology coverage by ophthalmologists and hospital departments well above the national average, excellent representation by patients' associations (7) representing every pathology leading to visual impairment.
Projects already under way: creation of a low vision center in Nice, epidemiological studies in partnership with a global research network, the Institut de la Vision in Paris.
The Côte d'Azur is home to two major hospital referral centers:
Since 1991, the Cyclotron has been used to treat 3,500 European patients suffering from choroidal melanomas, making this the world's third largest treatment cohort.
"Sophia-Antipolis is a very attractive region for any semiconductor company, for several reasons. The first one is that in the technology park of Sophia-Antipolis there is a solid tradition of analog and digital design, which is due to the presence of other big companies working in the same or similar markets, like Texas Instruments, Intel, STM and others. The second reason is linked to presence in the technology park of the Polytech'Nice-Sophia and other important schools.
That will guarantee our future growth since the region will always offer both experienced design engineers and you talents to hire."
Interview with Paolo Cusinato, Design Director of MAXIM Sophia-Antipolis design center
"For me, Sophia Antipolis is unique in Europe because of its multicultural nature which is evident daily, but also the concentration of a multitude of companies from the computing world in a single location."
