Nice Côte d'Azur: World Recognition for SEMIACS' Intelligent Parking System
The innovative project was recognised with the Award for the World's Best Innovative Smart City Project from among one hundred other candidates
At the SMART CITY EXPO WORLD CONGRESS (trade show for smart cities bringing together companies, governments, entrepreneurs and research centres that work to make our cities "smart"), held from 29th November to 2nd December 2011 in Barcelona, SEMIACS, a Nice-based public-private partnership, which manages on-street parking and 17 car parks for the City of Nice, presented its Intelligent Parking System and the new technologies that will be installed in Nice from January.
This project is not only completely technically innovative but also original in that within SUDE, a subsidiary created last June, SEMIACS works with private partners. It has just been recognised from among one hundred other European, American and Asian candidates, winning the Award for the World's Best Innovative Smart City Project.
This Intelligent Parking project, started by Christian Estrosi, Minister, Mayor of Nice and Chairman of Nice Côte d’Azur, and assigned to Benoît Kandel, President of SEMIACS, is one of the flagship initiatives in the 2011-2015 Global Parking Scheme presented last September at the Théâtre de la Photographie.
Christian Estrosi extends his warmest congratulations to SEMIACS' personnel and its President, Benoît Kandel, who have now seen their work recognised internationally: "I am delighted that a Nice-base public company has been honoured in this way. I am very keen for these new parking solutions to be implemented quickly across the municipality, to facilitate residents travel arrangements, support city centre businesses and reduce air pollution. The City of Nice, "inventor" of this new technology will naturally be the first city in Europe to deploy these new tools to help parking across its region from 1st January 2012, at the same time strengthening my ambitions for a Smart City."
