Nice Côte d’Azur Airport: An aerobridge to support international traffic

With international traffic representing 60% of overall traffic, Nice Côte d’Azur airport can now accommodate its passengers in the best conditions.

The aerobridge 54 operation, representing an investment of €8.5M is part of a process to improve the service and increase the capabilities of international boarding at Terminal 2.  Located at gate 54, it serves a new 1,500m² international boarding lounge and allows contact boarding for either one high capacity jet (A380 – B747), or two medium-sized aircraft (type A320, B737-400).

The new aerobridge was unveiled on 23rd September in the presence of a test A380.

Hervé de PLACE, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aéroports de la Côte d'Azur, highlights: “Today we are delighted to unveil this new aerobridge 54 which will improve passengers’ journeys through Terminal 2 and which will enable us to handle the significant development in international traffic. This is also a major architectural success which offers an exceptional view over the airport's runways and beyond, towards the Mediterranean, from the Cap d'Antibes to Cap Ferrat.”

This building with extendable aerobridges is located in the next phase of Terminal 2.2 to the west of gate 52, incorporating over 3 levels:

-      at ground level, a boarding lounge for long-haul flights

-      on the mezzanine, an arrivals gallery for the contact gate and Air France offices

-      on the 1st floor a boarding lounge with contact gate.

The size of the building was determined by departure levels and sized to accommodate new areas dedicated to gate 54.  Its width has been optimised so as to ensure an ample and flowing internal layout.

The height of the departure lounge on level 1 was increased to give a larger volume and more generous space.

Access to the fixed corridors of gate 54 follows similar design principles to those of existing gates with two departure ramps accessing two mobile extendible aerobridges and one arrival ramp.

They chose the Côte d'Azur

"Sophia-Antipolis is a very attractive region for any semiconductor company, for several reasons. The first one is that in the technology park of Sophia-Antipolis there is a solid tradition of analog and digital design, which is due to the presence of other big companies working in the same or similar markets, like Texas Instruments, Intel, STM and others. The second reason is linked to presence in the technology park of the Polytech'Nice-Sophia and other important schools.

That will guarantee our future growth since the region will always offer both experienced design engineers and you talents to hire."
