Pollutec Horizons 2009: Côte d’Azur players at green growth trade fair

Team Côte d’Azur will be at the show, alongside local firms, EcoCHANGE and Clean Energy Planet, which are among the PACA region’s participating companies.

“Environmental Intelligence” will be this year’s slogan for the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regional stand, showcasing the region’s rich expertise in this field at the international Pollutech Horizons fair which takes place from 01-04 December at the Parc des Expositions Villepinte in Paris.
And Team Côte d’Azur, which will be represented by its “chargé de mission”, Cyril Dary, will also be there, alongside Clean Energy Planet and EcoCHANGE, the two Côte d’Azur companies presenting their activities on this occasion. A number of regional partners will also be representing the region at the fair, including competitive clusters, the Pôle Risques and the Pôle Mer; the environmental professionals’ network, Éa éco-entreprises; and the Europôle de l’Arbois.

Consulting and training company, EcoCHANGE aims to assist companies in all environmentally-related sectors. Its wide range of services to customers include measuring their carbon footprint to reduce energy consumption, setting-up an Environmental Management System (EMS), assistance in obtaining ISO 14001 certification as well as establishing a sustainable development program for companies that also covers the social dimension. This young company, which is a member of the Pôle Capenergies cluster, has developed an innovative method that espouses green design products. Its EAPIPP (Eco-conception Adaptée aux Produits et Intégrée au Processus Projet ) method enables engineers and technicians to measure the environmental impact at all stages of the technical options regarding choice of materials, processes as well as ergonomic aspects such as packaging, etc. And this simple and easy to implement approach was adopted by ADEME for its call for its 2008 projects. The company offers training courses in all these matters, as well as in EU directives on the environment and waste minimization.

Electric bicycles could be a great alternative to cars for getting around the steep Côte d’Azur landscape, particularly in Sophia Antipolis. Clean Energy Planet (CEP) has focused on this problem and come up with an innovative parking bay solution for electric bikes. When cyclists park their electric bikes in the specially-equipped parking bays using a RFID cards, the bikes are automatically locked and the batteries recharged. This is controlled by special software developed by Antibes-based firm Vulog that provides a tactile interface for clients at the parking bays and also manages reservations and sends regular Internet updated activity/reports (for each parking bay, electrically-assisted bike, user…).

The solution also includes a GPS geolocation option to locate each bike. Thanks to its partnership with a French bicycle manufacturer, the firm can also offer “Clean Bike Cardan” bicycles equipped with a lithium battery and which have a range of around 40km depending on the type of terrain and amount of power needed. However, the CEP system is made so that it can accommodate all types of electrically assisted bikes, thanks to an adaptation kit.

With the keen interest shown by a number of companies in the technology park to adopt CEP’s solution, the technology park could become a shining example of sustainable transport in France.
