MIPIM : The French Riviera Eco-Valley – A major infrastructure program
The French Riviera Eco-Valley, National Interest Project (OIN), will position the Côte d’Azur as a worldwide reference for sustainable development
With the French Riviera Eco-Valley, a National Interest Project (OIN) that covers 10,000 hectares from Plaine du Var in the west to Nice, the French Riviera Eco-Valley is one of the leading pioneering projects for the coming decades.

Alongside Sophia Antipolis, will further enhance the international appeal of the Côte d'Azur with a major EU sustainable development programme, and maximize the potential development of its economy and its human resources, while protecting an exceptional natural setting.
The creation of a project of national interest (OIN) and the implication of local and central government, both of which are represented on the board of the public establishment in charge of development are particularly strong signals of economic transformation and social commitment on the Cote d'Azur.
- Three major studies are close to completion
These studies objectives are to examine the direction in which the Côte d’Azur can be developed to give it a new international status, define the essential organisational and functional principles of Plaine du Var and set the principles for an environmental standard that will govern the French Riviera Eco-Valley
- The Nice Meridia green business and residential district
The Nice Méridia green business and residential district (1st phase of development by the COGEDIM-Icade consortium) is already demonstrating its attraction to “user” companies.
As part of the development of the Plaine du Var, a new approach to the city is taking shape on the 20 hectare Nice Méridia site. Work began in 2009 on Nice Premium, a 10,200 m² office complex built to the highest international standards in terms of quality facilities and sustainability.
Total investment: €29 million. Completion date: March 2010. Owner: COGEDIM Office Partners. Promoters: ATISREAL, DTZ. Architect: Reichen & Robert
The institute for sustainable development (I2D), will be located in the Nice Meridia district, as an illustration of the new approach to development on the Côte d’Azur. This new institute will be created by the university of Nice-Sophia Antipolis as part of its government-backed “promising campus” campaign.
This large project in the French Riviera Eco-Valley illustrates the commitment of local and national government to investing in higher education and research and to strengthening links between training/research establishments and the private sector.
- The Nice-Airpot-TGV multimodal transport hub
This hub will mesh transport links more closely. Located on the outskirts of Nice, adjacent to the airport, the hub will make it easy for travelers to switch between tram services, city bus lines, private vehicles and regional trains, as well as the future high-speed rail line scheduled for 2023.
- An exhibition and events center
Plans for a nearby Exhibition and Events Center are also on the drawing board. This vast complex of some 100,000 m² is intended to host major international events and conferences, concerts and shows, as well as sporting competitions and events.
The project is a landmark facility for Nice Côte d’Azur raising the region into the ranks of the top ten European destinations for international trade shows.
Like the multimodal station on adjacent sites, the project is part of the overall development plan for the south section of Plaine du Var and designated an Eco-city zone by the minister for ecology and sustainable development.
The Côte d’Azur will also have its own Grand Stade sports stadium at Nice Saint Isidore; the design competition was opened in 2009. The 35,000-seater stadium will host national and international sports competitions and leisure events for the whole Côte d’Azur metropolis. The project forms part of the French Riviera Eco-Valley program and will be served by the new tram line to be built.
