Life sciences conference held at the Salk Institute in San Diego on 26 January, 2010
Team Côte d’Azur organizes workshop on toxicology and ecotoxicology opportunities.
Céline Jacquet, Manager of the Life Science and Environment business unit at Team Côte d’Azur traveled to San Diego for the workshop, which was organized jointly by Team Côte d’Azur and Provence Promotion, the business cluster attached to Eurobiomed and French Bio Beach, the San Diego-based association in charge of French and American biotech network.
The goal of the conference was to build closer links between the South of France biotech community and the community in San Diego, which is extremely dynamic, by getting both communities together to discuss toxicology and ecotoxicology. A total of 50 to 60 people (from American pharmaceutical and biotech companies as well as French visitors) attended the conference.
After a presentation by Team Côte d’Azur and Provence Promotion on the PACA region’s Health/Life Sciences competitive cluster, four French companies gave a presentation of their skills and to talk about their experience.
The four were:
* Skinethic, which produces and develops in-vitro solutions to test the safety and effectiveness of numerous products (cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, etc…). Anne de Brugerolle was in San Diego alongside Team Côte d'Azur, representing the Alpes-Maritimes department (06).
* Sigentec is a service and R&D company dedicated to finding solutions for the chemical pharmaceutical industries regarding toxicology and, more particularly, genetic toxicology;
* ICDD is a contract research provider, focused on predictive toxicology. The company uses its proprietary secondary screening platforms to select the safest drugs from the most active lead molecules developed and provided by its clients;
* Biovays offers new, highly-specialized research models that range from pathological studies through target discovery and drug development to a number of industries.
The conference also included a round table discussion led by Didier Bagnol, Associate Director at Arena Pharmaceuticals (SD), which focused on the risks, challenges and opportunities raised by new European legislation (Reach, cosmetics).
A second workshop will be held between now and the end of this year to strengthen relations further between the two regions.
