Talents: Launch of the 6th L'Oréal France - UNESCO National Fellowships

Call for applications until 15th April. This year's fellowship organised with the support of the French National Commission for UNESCO & the Academy of Sciences

L’Oréal France launches the 6th Fellowship "For Women in Science", with the support of the French Commission for UNESCO and the Academy of Sciences.

This year, L'Oréal France will further its commitment by rewarding 12 students in their last year of their PhD thesis instead of 10.

The fellowships can be combined with other research grants and aim to enable doctoral students to introduce and promote their work and speed up their project.

In 2010, we talked with Carine NGUEMENI, a doctoral student at IPMC Sophia Antipolis, who was rewarded for her work on the influence of a diet rich in omega-3 on strokes.

Carine NGUEMENI explained the context in which the work rewarded by the L'Oréal-UNESCO Fellowship was carried out.
"Carine NGUEMENI: I wanted to join Doctor Catherine Heurteaux's team (EXPLORATION OF CEREBROVASCULAR AND THERAPEUTIC PATHOLOGY Team - UMR 6097/UNS/CNRS) which offered a thesis subject concerning the "Influence of a diet rich in Omega-3 (Alpha-linolenic) on cerebral vascular accidents, neuronal and vascular consequences and risk factors. I was therefore able to benefit from the laboratory's expertise to develop my thesis."

They chose the Côte d'Azur

"Sophia-Antipolis is a very attractive region for any semiconductor company, for several reasons. The first one is that in the technology park of Sophia-Antipolis there is a solid tradition of analog and digital design, which is due to the presence of other big companies working in the same or similar markets, like Texas Instruments, Intel, STM and others. The second reason is linked to presence in the technology park of the Polytech'Nice-Sophia and other important schools.

That will guarantee our future growth since the region will always offer both experienced design engineers and you talents to hire."
